Frequently asked questions

Q:Do I need to hire a law admissions consultant to get into law school?
A: Nope! You can do all of this by yourself—seriously. But some people might want or need some help and guidance navigating the admissions process, and that’s where I come in.

Q: Do you require a deposit upfront?
Yes, I require a one-hour deposit before I will get started. That deposit will go toward your first hour of our work together. That deposit is non-refundable.

Q: I want to hire you, but it’s expensive/I need to spread out my payments/I don’t have that much money upfront.
A: I will work with you to be flexible on payments. I bill on a biweekly basis on the 1st and 15th of each month (with the exception of weekends/holidays). If you need to spread out our time together, you are free to do so to accommodate your budget!

Q: What are your credentials?
A: I graduated from the University of Houston Law Center with a J.D. in 2004. I was an assistant and then associate director of admissions at UHLC from 2013-2021, where I read thousands upon thousands of applications in my time there. I worked for one admissions cycle as a law admissions consultant for a large, private company, and then I also served as a contract file reader for the University of Florida Law. I currently serve as a contract file reader for Suffolk University Law School as well.

Q: What is your hourly rate?
A: I currently charge $125/hour. I reserve the right to change my pricing at any time, but current clients will always pay whatever I have quoted them at the beginning of our consulting time.

Q: Will you work with people outside of Texas or the U.S.?
A: Absolutely. I live in Texas, but I am open to working with people from all over. Thank goodness for Google Meet and Zoom!

Q: What if I have no idea where to start, what schools I want to apply to, or anything about the law school admissions process?
A: Good thing you found me! If that’s the case, I’d recommend starting out with an in-depth meeting so that we can dive into what you’re looking for in a law school and throughout this process.

Q: Do you make any guarantees that I will get into at least one school?
A: Unequivocally NO (bold, underline, Italicize, etc.). Any consultant that DOES make a guarantee is one that you should immediately run from. Not one single law admissions consultant has any control over what an admissions committee does, and just because you fall within or are above the median of a particular school does not mean you’ll be admitted. Let me repeat: I have no control over the decisions an adcomm makes. Your application could be flawless, and you still might not get in—that’s just the way it goes. It’s competitive and there ARE no guarantees. My guarantee is that I will work hard alongside you to make your application as strong as it can possibly be.

Q: Why is the admissions process so competitive?
A: That’s a loaded question. Getting into law school has become more and more competitive even just in the two decades since I’ve graduated. A lot of it has to do with the economy—when the economy is struggling (think: the 2008 crash, COVID, etc.) and people lose their jobs, they tend to think about going back to school. When the political climate is uncertain, people lean toward going to law school to get more involved and to make a difference. There are a lot of reasons, and it is, like most things, cyclical. More women and minorities are also applying to law school (at the end of my time at UHLC, we had more women than men in our fall classes!) as well as a broader range of majors (those in STEM fields have realized that they do great in law school).

Q: Why should I hire you? What makes you unique?
A: I’m good at this. I enjoy working with law school applicants, and I really enjoy working with those who may not be well-represented in the legal profession. For as long as I’ve been in admissions, I’ve been drawn to the underdogs and to those who are from marginalized communities as I believe everyone deserves to have access to the same resources, and I vowed that if I ever started my own admissions consulting business, I would gear it toward helping those applicants.

When I worked for the large, private law admissions consulting company, almost every single client I worked with was ONLY interested in the T-14 schools and wouldn’t consider any others. I’ve found that applicants put unnecessary pressure on themselves and think that they will only have a successful law school experience or only get a job after law school if they went to the top-tier schools. That’s simply not true. HOWEVER—I will help anyone who truly wants my guidance in the process, whether you’re applying to the bottom tier of law schools or only Harvard and Yale. My goal is to help you craft the best application possible, no matter your circumstances, your background, or where you want to go to school.

Q: Is there anything else I should know?
A: On a more personal note, I want to let all of my clients know that I have several autoimmune/chronic illnesses that can flare up without much warning. I will always be communicative as to what’s happening, but I do ask for patience with me as I navigate this part of my life. I do my absolute best to respond within 48 hours to emails, but sometimes life happens and I promise I will get back to you as soon as possible. If I haven’t responded to you in that time frame, please feel free to reach back out.
